Starting the New Year Right

it's been ages since I last posted sometime in Sept of last year. So part of my new beginnings is to post more often.
I have worked, procrastinated, taken a bad fall and now recuperating from a cold that latched onto my voice. So in 2008 I have tried to be more responsible. Have paid my property taxes one day early. Started printing client payroll tax forms and w2s. Have made a to do list and brought it up to date. Crossed off items as I finished them. Been doing EFT for my self sabotaging issues and will keep doing that. hope to exercise more and watch my blood sugar more carefully. if I can lose more weight the blood sugar issues will hopefully resolve some.

procrastination

I need to do some real work, but I just don't seem to get over myself. Emptied the dishwasher, but didn't do the laundry. Didn't reload either. Read a few books. Made breakfast, and made lunch including the use of the rice maker. Read posts from friends on the internet.
Didn't finish the pictures I need to print, for the applications I haven't done. Nor returned the phone calls message I ignored yesterday and Friday.
What is wrong with me? Why am I paralyzed to complete these tasks and a whole bunch more from my to do list? I'm not exercising either and I'm making excuses for everything.
Even this blog post is part of the problem. Thought I had conquered this ailment, evidently not.

Empty Nester

My daughter is away, first to a seminar, then to visit a friend in Minneapolis. She returns the 10th and then leaves again for the Jewish New Year at a hotel. And when that is done she goes to another seminar on the Sunday. I wish I could join her but I have so much tax work to finish I just can't see how I'd complete the work taking the day off. I have to take some of the Holiday off, but with all this work due soon it's gonna be a tight squeeze.
My two younger sons left on a cruise yesterday to the Caribbean. Now that is another place for a vacation. Haven't been there in more than ??*** years. Cruises are lovely. Went on one for our honeymoon. As long as you don't get seasick! the only rough time we had was off Cape Hatteras.
Hope they have good weather, all these storms make me a little nervous.
One good thing about them being away, I'll get the use of the car more often.

Life between posts

As one of my friends commented, it's been a long time between posts. Since I'm an accountant you can guess how crazy tax season was, and all the other work at the same time just blasted me. And just when I was getting my backlog a little bit lower I was in a car accident. Totaled the car. Took a while to get over the bruises. And I just couldn't do much work.
So now the backlog is huge, and I'm still playing catchup but procrastination is biting me. Can't seem to manage to do as much as I need to do. The don't wannas are in full force.
Had my first swim this year, last week. Evidently my fiend doesn't heat his pool. It was too cold to swim. got wet, but just never got warm enough to actually move in the pool, and it was so humid out.
So this holiday weekend we were supposed to go away, but hubby has a cold so he's not happy. Going to see friends new house and do some work using laptop while there. hope to blog again soon.

the After thanksgiving shopping rush

I always look at the black friday ads to see if something I want is available for less. Occassionally I've even been know to go to a store. Mostly I don't. I tell my sons what I want and they fight the crowds. This year I also shopped on line and definitely got some discounts and deals. some deals were of course sold out, but most were held over till saturday or even sunday. For the first time I shopped overstockeddot com?? I actually spent hours going over their site and of course reading customer reviews. I mean it isn't that I haven't looked ocassionally, but I actually bought on sale with discount coupons. So now i'm waiting for the delivery to see if the goods live up to their hype
but it seems that many people shopped on line this year. At Walmart the on line response was so massive that the site crashed! Others sites were hacked by buyers getting in and ordering even before the official sites were available. I didn't understand this but that's how some items were sold out so quickly. maybe next year I'll actually make a list and try online shopping again, since I didn't even try the clothing shops. and now there's cyber Monday! Online shopping discount style. not sure i want anything badly enough, but I supposed I'll take a look

strange weather

Now that the elections are almost over it dawned on me that the weather really is not normal. We've had warm days and cold days in succession before, but the rain pattern is really weird. Here in the northeast we're only getting these huge hard storms with lots of wind instead of some soft, some drizzles and some hard. Washington state is flooding. California's had drought for a while and Austrailia is suffering really bad drought the worst in 1000 years??

Some people insist it's global warming, some insist that it's just natual climatic change, global warming is a myth. And then just recently a government leader in some foreign country who cut Bush when he came to talk about global warming because he didnt believe just changed his mind.
I read a sci fi story once about how the fear of global warming caused all these laws to be past and the world went from temperate to frozen. That's a little bit of what bothers me. If they try so hard to prevent the temperature to rise they might just cause us to freeze. Paranoia is a bitch.
